U16 a Towcester per una tre giorni indimenticabile

Al termine i giovani udinesi sono stati assegnati alle varie famiglie dei loro pari età inglesi che li hanno ospitati per i due giorni successivi.
La società del Towcestrians RFC fa parte del vivaio del Northtampton Saints e i migliori giocatori frequentano l’accademia interna del prestigioso club inglese.
L’incontro vero e proprio è stato giocato domenica pomeriggio. Sono state due le formazioni schierate dall’Udine Rugby Junior, così da permettere a tutti i ragazzi di vivere un’esperienza importante. La squadra bianca è stata la prima a scendere in campo e da subito ha dimostrato gran voglia di giocare, tanto da riuscire a dominare nelle fase statiche di mischia e touch, riducendo così notevolmente il numero di palloni giocabili dagli inglesi. La partita è stata in equilibrio a lungo, ma i primi a segnare sono stati gli udinesi. La reazione degli inglesi non si è fatta aspettare, supportata anche da un paio di cambi di livello che hanno permesso ai Towcestrians di recuperare lo svantaggio e aggiudicarsi l’incontro per tre mete a due, con il risultato finale di 19 – 12. Nella seconda partita la squadra nera ha giocato con una formazione composta da ragazzi classe 1999, con diversi fuori quota del 1998, nati tra settembre e dicembre. Notevole, quindi, la differenza fisico strutturale tra i giocatori inglesi e quelli friulani. Un divario che non ha impedito agli udinesi di giocare una partita ineccepibile, sia sul piano del gioco che su quello della determinazione. Dominio dei friulani anche in quest’incontro nelle fasi statiche di mischia e touch, con un primo tempo equilibrato che si è chiuso con gli inglesi in vantaggio 7 – 0. Nel secondo tempo, la freschezza degli inglesi è stata determinante, consentendo al Towcester di schiacciare la palla oltre la linea di meta, con il risultato finale di cinque mete a uno per gli inglesi.

A fine match foto di rito con tutti i giocatori e allenatori insieme, per poi proseguire nella Clubhouse per il terzo tempo, questa volta senza la tradizionale pasta, ma con il tipico piatto inglese domenicale a base di carne, verdure al vapore e yorkshire pudding. Gran bella atmosfera tra i ragazzi che, mescolati tra loro, davano la sensazione di far parte tutti della stessa squadra e forse era proprio così: una squadra di rugby dove stemmi e bandiere rappresentano solo le origini e non le divisioni. A vivacizzare l’ambiente c’è stato poi un contest canoro improvvisato, partito dai ragazzi udinesi che, dopo aver cantato la propria canzone di club, hanno scatenato l’immediata risposta degli inglesi. Tra un canto e l’altro c’è stato lo scambio dei regali tra club e la consegna dei riconoscimenti ai giocatori che si sono distinti nelle due partite: come da tradizione, i tecnici udinesi hanno segnalato due giocatori inglesi e quelli inglesi due giocatori italiani. Il riconoscimento in casa udinese è andato a Roberto Vergallo (pilone) e a Davide Muzzi (apertura), con ottime parole da parte del tecnico inglese Steve Yuill, sul gioco espresso e sulle qualità della formazione friulana. Nella trasferta in terra inglese c’è stato anche lo spazio per tappa culturale, seppur in tema rugbistico: la visita alla città di Rugby con tour alla Rugby School, dove tutto è nato.

Coach Colautti commenta così il tempo trascorso in terra inglese: “E’ stata una bellissima esperienza per tutti noi, ma ancor di più per i ragazzi. Spero vivamente che, l’amicizia nata, prosegua anche fuori dal contesto rugbistico. Abbiamo giocato un gran bel rugby e abbiamo visto cose molto belle fatte dai ragazzi.” Continua coach Furlanich: “C’è poco da aggiungere a quanto detto da Colautti. Sono sicuro che la partita di oggi non è stata un caso, noi abbiamo sempre creduto in questi ragazzi e spero che adesso lo abbiano capito anche loro. In campionato il rendimento è stato altalenante e se avessimo giocato ogni partita con questa intensità e voglia non ce ne sarebbe stato per nessuno. Per restare sul campionato sono rimasto deluso dalla decisione del Lido Venezia di non concederci il posticipo, richiesta dovuta alla concomitanza con la trasferta in Inghilterra, questo ci ha costretto a rinunciare all’incontro con conseguenti punti di penalizzazione e multa. Risultato, loro sono comunque arrivati primi e la Udine Rugby Junior seconda, ma avrebbero dato un’occasione in più ai ragazzi per dimostrare il loro valore.”
